Welcome to issue 23 of tranfree - the newsletter for translators.

 

Worn Out?

I don't know what it is, but in the UK there seems to be a spirit of general gloominess over the country. The weather's been dreadful for the last 3 months and it's rained over large parts of the country every day for 90 days

People are feeling worn out and depressed. I suppose it's a general winter thing but it seems that things are really slowing down for Christmas, which they don't usually do.

Perhaps we should all move to the other side of the world. I remember when it was summer here I got an email from someone in Australia who pointed out it was winter there. Well, you can get your own back now

It seems to me that this general feeling means that we all need a good break. What I suggest is that we all...

  • have a nice break
  • forget all about work
  • come back feeling fully refreshed

I hope I'll be able to take my own advice. I don't know if I will. I usually can't. But I hope I will. I've put in a lot of hours in 2000 and it's really time I learned how to slow down.

2000 has been a big year though. A lot of things have happened. I've taken on too many things but it will pay off eventually.

If you don't look after yourself, you'll end up paying for it one way or another. Either with your body or your mind.

So have a good...

...rest and come back feeling invigorated. That's my advice for the rest of 2000

Have a nice Christmas break and an extremely happy and prosperous 2001.

Translation Joke

One of Australia's leading agencies produced multi-thousand copies of a resource called Language Card, used in offices etc where the client doesn't speak any English.

In English it reads...

Please indicate to us the language you speak and we will endeavour to obtain an interpreter for you.

In Polish it was translated as...

Please show us your tongue and we will get an interpreter for you!
